The Godfather (The Godfather) is the name given to the films directed by Francis Ford Coppola and written by him along with novelist Mario Puzo. The trilogy consists of three films: The Godfather , The Godfather II and The Godfather III . The first installment won three Academy Awards (Best Picture, Best Actor for Marlon Brando, and Best Adapted Screenplay) out of eleven nominations, while the second won six (Best Picture, Best Director for Coppola, Best Supporting Actor for Robert De Niro, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Original Score, and Best Art Direction) out of eleven nominations, for a total of nine Academy Awards. The third film, however, did not achieve the same level of public success and, despite receiving seven Oscar nominations, did not win any awards.
