The Godfather (The Godfather) is the name given to the films directed by Francis Ford Coppola and written by himself together with the novelist Mario Puzo. The trilogy consists of the three films: The Godfather , The Godfather II and The Godfather III .​ The first installment won three Academy Awards (Best Picture, Best Actor for Marlon Brando, and Best Adapted Screenplay) out of a possible eleven nominations, while the second installment won six (Best Picture, Best Director for Coppola, Best Supporting Actor for Robert De Niro, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Original Score, and Best Art Direction) out of a possible eleven nominations, for a total of nine Academy Awards. The third installment did not have the same public impact, and also received seven Academy Award nominations but did not win any awards.
