Michael Myers Michael Myers is a fictional character from the Halloween film series, a slasher film. He first appears in Halloween (1978) as a six-year-old boy who murders his older sister, and then, fifteen years later, returns home to murder his younger sister. In the original Halloween, the adult Michael Myers—referred to as The Shape during the closing credits—was portrayed by Nick Castle for most of the film, with Tony Moran and Tommy Lee Wallace replacing him during the final scene. He was created by Debra Hill and John Carpenter. Michael Myers has appeared in ten films, as well as a novel, two video games (Halloween and Dead by Daylight), and several comic books. In 2007, filmmaker and musician Rob Zombie revived the film series with a remake, which received its own sequel in 2009.

The character has gone through three distinct versions or continuities. In Carpenter and Hill's original version, he is a psychopathic killer by nature, and there is no rational explanation behind his actions beyond what appears to be an intrinsic evil, as described by Dr. Loomis (played by Donald Pleasence). Several sequels create the "Curse of the Thorn" storyline, which offers a magical and supernatural explanation for Michael's behavior, linking it to black magic and Celtic rites. Rob Zombie, on the other hand, presents a somewhat more rational and humanized version of the killer, where Myers is a psychopath who comes from a dysfunctional home, but whose motivations and powers are not merely psychological and human.
